During the winter months skin can feel tight, dry and scaly which can all be attributed to the loss of
moisture in the skin and the thickening of the outer layers of skin (stratumcorneum).
Simply by accelerating the exfoliation process and allowing the secretion of your
natural oils will help reduce the skin’s tautness.
The application of creams and serums containing ingredients that not only form an occlusive barrier to
prevent moisture loss but actually draw moisture particles from the atmosphere to the skin offer relief and
comfort to dry skin. There is no need to tolerate dry skin with these technological advances where skin
can be kept comfortable, supple, firm and well toned throughout the winter months.
Treatments at Beautiful Image for dehydrated dry skin.
We have a range of hydration treatments and intense moisturising skin care products help to restore
skin’s natural lubricants by decreasing the amount of dead skin cells which build up in the winter months.
During a consultation your paramedical skin technician may recommend some of the following
treatments:
Microdermabrasion, Specialised Environ Treatments, Specialsied Peels, LED Light Therapy Treatments,
Green Peel and IPL Photo-rejuvenation.
These treatments increase the microcirculation which intern supplies nutrients to the skin and provides
healthy colour and vitality. These treatments quickly stimulate rapid cell renewal encouraging the new
healthy cells to migrate to the surface of the skin surface along with the vital lubricants that naturally
hydrate the skin.
Myths and Truths
We have a wealth of knowledge to share regarding the best care of your skin.
Enjoy our blog as we bust some myths and expose the truth of effective Skin Care
Dehydrated Winter Skin
The truth about scar reduction
Fact - Dermal rolling to fix scars - Call Beautiful Image for help or visit our website.
Fact - Something from the outside cannot fix something from the inside. Call Beautiful Image for help or visit our website.
Your skin and the Sun
Fact - Blackheads can result from the sun causing oxidation of sebum (oil) in a blocked pore and the oil becomes black. Call us or visit our website for more information.
Myth - We do not need sunscreen in winter
Fact - The winter sun causes more damage to the skin because we tend to enjoy the warmth from the sun without realising the damage we're doing. Those rays are still aging us.
Fact - Pigment takes years to come to the surface so with treatments such as fraxel or IPL even though it may appear to fade, it will return and 3 hours of sun exposure can undo all the hard work. Call Beautiful Image for help or visit our website for a test patch to try before you buy.
Moisturisers, foundations and your skin
Myth - My moisturiser make me feel moist
Fact - This means the cream may be too thick to penetrate the skin to feed the vitamins the skin is lacking.
Myth - The skin does act as a barrier so only 2-7% of products penetrate the surface .
Fact - True, however cosmetic rolling allows up to 87% absorption of products.
Myth - Foundations do not harm skin
Fact - Some foundations can cause skin congestion as blocked pores and pimples. Check yours by mixing a little in a glass of water. If friendly the water should become cloudy.
Why sugar is making you old
Sugar is our number one aging enemy as it attacks skin cells and collagen fibres causing elasticity loss... saggy skin.... the process is called glycation. Sugar acts as an incentive for us to eat more and is in most foods. Even if you opt for an organic muesli bar over chocolate cake or fresh orange juice rather than the coke your healthy choices are frighteningly low on vitamins and minerals while disturbingly high in sugar. Yes, even diet food can be a trap. Average Australian women eat 31 teaspoons of sugar a day. The Australian Dietary Guidelines suggest 10 teaspoons or 50g a day is plenty. Cut your sugar intake to this and you will take 10 years off your skin age. Read labels when shopping.
Some common foods and their sugar content:
Can of coke (340ml) - 10 teaspoons
Orange juice( 340 ml) - 8 teaspoons
Milo and Milk - 5 teaspoons
Weet-bix (2) - 1 teaspoon
Tim Tam (2) - 7-8 teaspoons
Vegemite sandwich - 1 teaspoon
LOWER YOUR SUGAR INTAKE IN FOUR STEPS
1. Drink water instead of soft drink and fruit juices, which are major contributors to excess sugar
2. Eat more whole foods, snack on high fibre, low GI carbs, nuts, low sugar yogurt, wholemeal crackers and fresh fruit in modest amounts
3. Keep chocolate, lollies and cake treats for special occasions only
4. Don’t add sugar. Slowly reduce the amount of sugar you add to your coffee, tea, and cereal. Or choose a substitute, such as a small amount of honey, or a healthier sweet alternative such as Stevia, agave syrup or Sucralose.
How can I make my Dry Skin feel better?
I have dry flaky skin and I use a scrub every other day to remove the dry skin. My skin feels great after I do this.
Truth
I agree your skin will feel great after the scrub but you will never fix the dry skin problem this way, it is just a bandaid and actually will eventually do a lot of harm causing you to become very sensitive and have a flushed skin. You need to use the correct skin program at home to stop the dryness. Your skin is actually lacking Vitamin A so you need to replace that essential vitamin. You need to use Environ.

IPL - ensure you have a proper consultation first!
All IPL or laser hair removal is the same so just shop for the cheaper price.
Truth
This is so not true. You must be very careful and ask the correct questions to avoid a burn or no result.
- The operator must be Laser safety qualified
- They must do a consultation with you to make sure you are suitable to have the treatment.
- In that consultation they should use a tool to measure your melanin content so they can set the machine correctly so as not to burn your skin
- The word IPL is just an anagram meaning Intense Pulsed Light it does not mean the all IPL will work at the same level and remove hair permanently. The machine that produces the IPL is what will control your results.
- If the machine is of high class you may only need to have facial hair treated at 3 to 4 week intervals and may need about 6 treatments depending on your hormones. Body hair the intervals between treatments is 6 to 8 weeks and you usually only need 4 to 6 treatment to be pretty hair free. You may need a touch up every 12 months or so if dormant hair comes through.

Will any moisteriser do?
Any moisturiser will do so long as I use something and it stops my skin feeling dry.
Truth
Moisturisers that are too heavy to be absorbed into the skin and just sit on the surface making you not feel dry can cause many skin problems such as blackheads, pimples, congestion and milia( little white hard lumps you see around your cheek bones and on your eyelids.). A good moisturiser must be light so the skin is able to absorb the essential vitamins it must have including Vitamin A and Vitamin C.

Can I cure ACNE for good?
If we fix the face or where the acne is appearing it will be cured for good
Truth
NO. Acne is the result of a hormonal imbalance resulting in over active production of sebum (oil). To get a permanent clear skin the body function must be balanced. You must keep the skin fed with the essential vitamins and clean so the oils can flow without becoming infected while sorting out the hormone issue. This hormonal imbalance can be due to many factors such as
- you may be a person who stresses in which case, you produce too much cortisol which believed to activate an imbalance of hormones. Stress is believed to be the most common cause that is why students develop acne in year 11 and 12 and it disappears after their exams are over. Taking Vitamin B may be a great help to calm stress.
- Many get a pimple outbreak when something special is coming up such as their wedding again this is stress.
- you may have inherited an unbalanced hormone body
- you may be polycystic
- when you are pregnant your skin can be perfect or develop acne due to the effect the pregnancy has on your body hormone balance.
- Different contraception can cause acne with some and improve it with others.
It has been noticed that Vitamin B can help calm stress and if you think you have a hormonal issue get a check up with your doctor.

Do I need sunscreen if I have ACNE?
I have oily skin so I do not need a sunscreen
Truth
Sunscreen should be used every day and if you find it too oily, keep trying till you find one that suits you such as the Environ brand. The acne blemishes attract the sun and can easily become pigmented marks and scars if you don’t wear sun protection.
